Privacy policy

Bookmark of the Day is a Chrome and Firefox extension that opens a random bookmark from your saved links. This page explains exactly what it accesses, what it stores, and what never leaves your device.

Effective 31 October 2026

The short version

What the Chrome extension accesses

The extension requests the following permissions. Each one is used for the feature described, and nothing else.

PermissionWhy it is needed
bookmarksRead your bookmark tree to pick a random link, count eligible bookmarks, and list the websites you have saved. Also used when you explicitly remove a bookmark from the in-page menu.
storageKeep the rotation of opened bookmarks, your website filters, and a pending reminder in chrome.storage.local on your device.
tabsOpen the chosen bookmark in a new tab, and check whether the active tab is a page you have bookmarked.
scriptingShow the small floating menu on pages you have bookmarked. The menu is the only thing injected.
alarmsTrigger the one-hour reminder you set.
Host permission (<all_urls>)Bookmarks can point to any website, so the in-page menu has to be able to appear on any site. It only appears on pages whose exact URL is in your bookmarks.

The extension does not read the content of the pages you visit. It compares the tab URL with your saved bookmark URLs to decide whether to show the menu.

What is stored, and where

Stored locally in your browser profile:

This data stays in chrome.storage.local. It is not synced by the extension, not written to a remote database, and not shared with third parties. Removing the extension deletes this storage.

What is never collected

This website

This site is a static marketing page hosted on GitHub Pages. It uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-4QVZ0ZKM78) to understand how many people visit and which pages and install buttons they use. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes aggregated usage data on Google's infrastructure; Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses. You can block it with any content blocker, browser privacy setting, or Google's opt-out add-on.

The site also links to the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons. Those stores have their own privacy policies and process installs on their own terms.

Your choices

Children

The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If the extension's data handling changes, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change. Material changes will also be noted in the extension's release notes.
